What is UPSC ethics syllabus?

The GS 4 Syllabus for the Mains Examination serves as the Ethics Syllabus for UPSC. The topics cover in the GS Paper 4 syllabus are ethics, aptitude, human interface, mindset, bedrock values of the civil service, and the code of conduct for the government. One of the nine papers of the Main Examination of the UPSC Civil Services Examination is the Ethics Syllabus. To teach future administrators about the ethical side of society and some moral values, it was add to the UPSC exam in 2013.

This particular UPSC CSE mains domain is mainly independent and just tangentially dependent on the mains’ governance and social justice topicGS Paper 2. Where there is little overlap in the topics connected to many fields and societal issues.

The three sections of the ethics course are:

    • Aptitude and Foundational Values for Civil Service, Integrity, Impartiality and Non-partisanship, Objectivity, Dedication to Public Service, Empathy, Tolerance and Compassion towards the weaker-sections.
    • Emotional Intelligence-Concepts, and their Utilities and Application in Administration and Governance.
    • Contributions of Moral Thinkers and Philosophers from India and World.
